"The opportunity to explore product and manufacturing methods, seeing how we can implement new tech, processes, and 'stress test' ideas for future growth, was invaluable."

In an impressive display of innovation and research, seven manufacturing businesses from Cheshire East recently joined us at AMRC Cymru, near Chester for the Productivity Improvement Programme workshop, designed to inspire and equip manufacturers with the latest advancements in technology and processes.

Impressive Innovation

The day started with the group having a tour of AMRC Cymru’s state of the art range of digital and machine technology, which AMRC’s expert engineers demonstrated, showcasing the abilities of the robotics, paperless monitoring systems, dynamic digital resource and waste management systems. The demonstrations gave the group an insight into how these technologies could transform their own operations.

The highlight of the morning for the group was being given the opportunity to experiment with Smart Work Benches, with one member of the group successfully building a hydrogen fuel cell for the first time. This hands-on experience highlighted the tangible benefits of integrating new technologies into manufacturing processes.

Collaboration and Problem-Solving

The workshop provided a platform for the visiting companies to share the specific challenges they face, ranging from technical issues to waste management and productivity bottlenecks. With the support of AMRC's expert engineers and the Growth Specialists from BIC Innovation, these issues were thoroughly examined. The collaborative environment encouraged open discussions, allowing businesses to share their thoughts, needs, and ideas.

One participant reflected, "A highly insightful tour of AMRC Cymru, which has inspired me to continue on our sustainable growth journey." Another attendee praised the day as "fantastic, informative, and very helpful," emphasizing the value of the experience.

Planning for the Future

The workshop culminated in a group discussion, where businesses shared their thoughts and identified what their specific needs are. These have now been turned into actionable next steps for each company who are now set to receive one-on-one support from AMRC engineers and BIC Innovation Growth Specialists, ensuring that their innovation and productivity improvement journey continues seamlessly.
